Colt McCoy

Now we might look at Colt McCoy and consider our other options, but when he was at Texas, he was carrying a franchise back to prominence. Did you know when McCoy left Texas he was the winningest quarterback in the history of college football? He was very efficient and allowed Mack Brown’s system to flourish. McCoy only threw 45 interceptions in his career of 1,645 passes. He was also the only four-time 10-game winner in the history of the sport at the time.

Winning may not be everything to some, but it is everything to college football fans, especially fans of the Longhorns. McCoy won. He took Texas to its last appearance in the National Title Game, losing to Alabama in 2009. He also beat Oklahoma three times. McCoy went for 277 yards in 2008 when they beat the Sooners when they were No. 1, ruining their shot at a National Championship.

When McCoy left Texas, he owned 47 school records. McCoy was one of the best in the country from his freshman year until he exhausted all of his eligibility.

McCoy had the perfect skill-set for the time, and he’s still in the NFL today, signing a contract this offseason with the New York Giants. However, despite a decade in the top league in the world, his time in Texas will always be how we see McCoy most fondly.
