1. OLB Uchenna Nwosu

This offseason, GM Tom Telesco was busier than he was a year ago when the club made two significant free-agent additions in outside linebacker Thomas Davis and quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The former spent one year with the Bolts, led Los Angeles with 112 tackles and is now with the Washington Redskins — reunited with Ron Rivera. Taylor is slated to be head coach Anthony Lynn’s starting quarterback in 2020 — at least for now — as the franchise has moved on from veteran Philip Rivers after 16 seasons with the team.

But the 2020 offseason has seen the club sign tackle Bryan Bulaga, trade for guard Trai Turner and add veteran defensive standouts such as Linval Joseph and Chris Harris. The Chargers also signed linebacker Nick Vigil, late of the Cincinnati Bengals. Veteran Denzel Perryman returns after finishing second on the club with 68 stops.

This season could add up to a bigger role for 2018 second-round pick Uchenna Nwosu. He’s played in all 16 games for the club in each of his first two years and also appeared in two playoff contests as a rookie. But he’s made only three starts each of those seasons. It’s added up to a combined 5.5 sacks, plus another QB trap in the 2018 playoff win at Baltimore. He’s yet another young player on this club ready to assume a bigger role.
