4. K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU

LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson checks in on this list of most overrated prospects and maybe it is unfair to place him here, but Chaisson is viewed by many as the second-best edge rusher in this class (behind Ohio State’s Chase Young).

Chaisson has decent size for playing the position in the NFL at 6-foot-3 and 254 pounds.

The biggest concerns with Chaisson are his consistency (or lack thereof) and his injury history. Chaisson suffered an ACL tear in the first game of the 2018 season. It’s always concerning when a player enters the NFL with a significant injury in their medical records. And when Chaisson returned in 2019 he had a relatively lackluster season. He did finally turn on his pass rush in the team’s final four games, notching 4.5 of his 6.5 sacks in that span.

Also, any time a player comes in the NFL with only two years of college football under their belt, it should be a concern. While the other teams in the SEC are good, with talented, future NFL caliber lineman, what a team is less capable of doing when they oppose a player for only two years is to adapt their game plan to that player. In the NFL, teams game plan for specific players every week and if you cannot adapt your game to them, it will quickly be an issue. Chaisson has shown limited ability to adapt his playing style.

Chaisson has some impressive film and a lot of very mediocre film. He may struggle in a 3-4 defense due to pass coverage and may also struggle to play on the line regularly in a 4-3 defense. Chaisson will likely be a top 20 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and the team that drafts him may ultimately regret that decision.
