4. David Montgomery will rush for over 1,000 yards

The Bears gave David Montgomery plenty of rushing attempts in his rookie season, but he didn’t do enough with the football to justify his workload. An average of just 3.7 yards per attempt on 242 rushing attempts is a great way to field an inefficient offense.

It’s fair to assume Montgomery will take a big leap in his sophomore campaign though. He’s a tough, physical runner who can make people miss in the open field. The hype he got coming out of Iowa State did him a disservice. He shouldn’t have been thrown into the deep end right away.

Of course, an efficient passing game could also open up a lot more holes for Montgomery in 2020. The Bears’ aerial attack has to find a way to get closer to league-average. If that happens, Montgomery should be able to boost his yards per attempt number to somewhere in the mid-4s.

That uptick in efficiency applied to a similar workload to what Montgomery enjoyed in 2019 will make him a 1,000-yard rusher this season. He won’t blossom into a star overnight, but he’ll emerge as a reliable weapon for Nagy and his offensive coaching staff in his sophomore campaign.
