3. Henry Ruggs III, Raiders

Ruggs has a chance to grow into a very good pro, but selecting them ahead of Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb makes this one of the worst picks in the draft. The Raiders really should have done better with their first pick in Sin City.

Jon Gruden, Mike Mayock and company clearly fell in love with Ruggs’ speed. He is arguably the fastest wideout in this class. The trouble is that his speed didn’t translate to big production at Alabama. Spending the No. 12 pick on a guy who only caught 40 passes in college speaks volumes about the amount of risk associated with this selection.

The Raiders hope that Ruggs can become the next Tyreek Hill. The trouble is that he has an equal shot of becoming the next Ted Ginn. That would still allow Ruggs to enjoy a long, productive NFL career, but it wouldn’t make him anything close to a Pro Bowler.

Simply put, Las Vegas took too big of a gamble in this spot. Ruggs would have been a decent pick at No. 19, but he was a significant overdraft at No. 12. This selection should have come down to a battle between Lamb and Jeudy. Instead, the Raiders overthought the situation and took an inferior wide receiver.
