2. Damon Arnette, Raiders

Yes, the Raiders have managed to appear on this list with both of their first round picks. They followed up taking the second-best wide receiver at Alabama by taking the second-best cornerback at Ohio State. That spells trouble in Round 1.

Arnette has a chance to grow into a quality starter, but he is absolutely a player that deserved to be selected in Round 2 or 3. At the very least, spending the No. 19 selection on him was a very poor use of resources by the Raiders’ front office.

The biggest issue with Arnette as a prospect is his lack of top-end speed. He’s good in short spaces, but he has a strong tendency to get lost when he’s forced to stay on receivers for a long time. That’s obviously a bigger issue in the NFL than it was for Arnette at Ohio State.

On the plus side, he does show solid instincts with the ball in the air. He also is a pretty physical player given his size. Those have to be the qualities that Las Vegas saw before making him their second first round selection.

The Raiders continue to do a very poor job of finding good value in the draft. Arnette is the latest in a long string of questionable decisions by the duo of Gruden and Mayock. He might turn into a decent player, but he could’ve been had in Round 2 with ease. It’s a drastic overpay no matter how you look at it.
