Chicago Bears rookie tight end Cole Kmet had his old tweets dug up, and Cubs fans aren’t happy.

Buckle up, the first rookie of this NFL Draft class had his old tweets dug up.

Cole Kmet didn’t say anything to get cancelled in the traditional sense, but he’s going to need to smooth things over with any Chicago Bears fans who reside on the North Side. Moments after the Bears used their first pick of this draft on the Notre Dame tight end, an old tweet began to circulate where he shades the daylights out of the Chicago Cubs.

The tweet is over a half-decade old, but that won’t take the sting off for any fans in Chicago who have their loyalty crossover between the Bears and Cubs.

It’s also worth mentioning that he’s not wrong (the Cubs indeed sucked in 2014), but the real mystery is why he tweeted it when he tweeted it.

The timestamp is dated October 29th, 2014 at 10:59 pm, which lines up with when the MLB Postseason would be going on. Specifically, the time stamp matches up with the final outs of Game 7 of the World Series that year, which was won by the San Francisco Giants. The other team was the Kansas City Royals, which means the Cubs connection is hard to find.

So why did he take a shot at the Cubs?

Is he a White Sox fan? Worse yet, is he a St. Louis Cardinals fan?

Before you get too riled up, the plot thickens: Kmet is a Cubs fan.

Maybe he was just venting, which back in 2014 was a perfect time to be complaining about the state of things on the North Side. The Cubs finished in last place in the NL Central that year, and looked to have no hope on the horizon.

We know now that in two seasons the 108-year curse would be broken and a World Series would finally return to Wrigley, but at the time we thought it was still just the beginning phases of a long rebuild to eventually get to a championship.

Kmet’s a Cubs fan, so the real mystery of how Bears fans who are also Cubs fans would have to wrestle with their new franchise tight end hating on North Side pride has been solved. As for why Kmet took out his rage on the Cubs, maybe the mystery is best left up to interpretation.
