Four quarterbacks went in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and they went in the order they were expected to go in. Who are the best quarterbacks on the board and where might they land?

When it comes to the NFL, quarterback is the position everyone is obsessed with. If a team doesn’t have a serviceable quarterback, they’re probably not going to be very good. That’s why football fans always get excited about the quarterback position during the annual NFL draft. Which team (or teams) will find their signal caller of the future?

This year, four went in round one with Joe Burrow going to the Bengals at pick number one, Tua Tagovailoa landing wit the Dolphins fifth overall, and Justin Herbert heading to the Chargers. The most surprising pick – not just at the quarterback spot, but overall – came when the Packers traded up to number 26 and took Utah State’s Jordan Love.

Those four going in the first round wasn’t surprising, but what was surprising was that Green Bay took Love. Not many saw that coming.

With four teams finding their potential franchise quarterbacks, who is left for the other 28 teams if they’re interested in adding at the position? There’s honestly a big drop off between Herbert and Love and there’s almost an even bigger one from Love to the next best guy, who would be Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma.

Prior to this draft, an Oklahoma quarterback went number one overall in back to back drafts (and won the Heisman Trophy as well). That streak broke in 2020, but Hurts will likely hear his name called in the second round and probably early on. The Colts hold the second pick in round two and it became clear last year that they weren’t impressed with Jacoby Brissett, as indicated by them signing Philip Rivers this offseason.

If Indianapolis passes, the Patriots could be a team looking to add Hurts and they have the early second round pick to do so. Carolina and Jacksonville might also be interested if both the Colts and Patriots pass.

After Hurts, the next best available quarterbacks are Jacob Eason out of Washington and Jake Fromm out of Georgia. Funny enough, Eason actually played at Georgia also, but an injury paved the way to Fromm taking over and the rest was history in Athens.

Neither of these players are ready to start for an NFL team, so the teams who draft them need to be prepared to groom them for a few years. It wouldn’t be shocking to see a team like the Vikings draft one of them and – as I mentioned before – the Panthers and Jaguars will surely be interested, especially the Jags.

After Hurts, Eason, and Fromm, there’s a huge drop-off in talent and those players probably aren’t going to be long-term starters, so these are the three we’ll be watching for on Day 2 to see where they land.

Where do you see the best remaining quarterbacks ending up?
