Baltimore Ravens 2020 NFL Draft grades: Patrick Queen rules round one
By John Buhler
Second Round
Baltimore made an impressive five picks on day two of the 2020 NFL Draft. Though they only made one pick in the second round, it was a phenomenal one, as the Ravens selected Ohio State Buckeyes running back J.K. Dobbins with the No. 55 overall pick. Adding Dobbins into the backfield that already features two Heisman Trophy winners in Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram isn’t fair.
The Ravens received this pick in a trade made with the Atlanta Falcons during the early part of 2020 NFL free agency. Baltimore received this pick and a fifth-round selection from the Falcons for tight end Hayden Hurst and a fourth-round selection. Atlanta originally had this additional second-rounder from a deal with the New England Patriots for wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.
Dobbins rushed for over 1,000 yards all three years in Columbus. Though he does have a bit of boom-or-bust potential in the NFL, he will be the perfect complementary back in Baltimore’s offense playing off Ingram and the always elusive Jackson. Though he could have gone as high as the late first round, Baltimore was able to select Dobbins here at a bit of a slight discount.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have taken him at No. 45 in the second round and that would have made sense. Though Cam Akers was a good player at Florida State, the Los Angeles Rams reached for him at No. 52. The Ravens just continue to prove they are one of the most well-run franchises in the NFL. They let other teams make mistakes ahead of them time and time again.
