Cincinnati Bengals 2020 NFL Draft grades: Joe Burrow Geauxt status
By John Buhler
Best Pick
As stated before, this was the easiest pick to be made in the entire 2020 NFL Draft. Joe Burrow was the top quarterback in the draft and Cincinnati’s biggest need was at that position. Given that he grew up in nearby Southeast Ohio, briefly played for Ohio State and then went onto star at LSU, there was no way the Bengals could have drafted anyone else.
By adding Burrow, it makes the Bengals something they haven’t been in years: Interesting. Burrow really taps into that Joe Cool vibe and will help transform this lost AFC franchise in a matter of years. It won’t be an overnight panacea, but Burrow is the type of competitor who makes everyone around him better. He’s an even better teammate. People will want to go to war for him.
Frankly, the Bengals had a very strong draft. Taking Burrow No. 1 overall and then having Tee Higgins fall into your lap at No. 33 overall at the top of the second round is simply incredible. Though he could be a good player in the middle of the defense, there is a lot of variability associated with Logan Wilson coming out of Wyoming.

He’ll be 24-years-old before he plays an NFL snap. Though a productive player in the Mountain West, is ready for NFL competition? Add in the Bengals drafting another linebacker, albeit of the outside variety in Akeem Davis-Gaither out of Appalachian State, and Wilson could be a tad under the microscope during the early part of his NFL career in Cincinnati. It’s still a good pick, though.
