Cleveland had a pair of picks in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The first one came at No. 88 overall, as the Browns traded the No. 74 overall pick and the No. 244 overall pick to the New Orleans Saints for No. 88 and a 2021 third-round selection. Cleveland opted to go with Missouri Tigers defensive tackle Jordan Elliott with this pick.

Elliott initially played his college ball for his home state’s Texas Longhorns before transferring to Missouri. He played the last two seasons for former Tigers head coach Barry Odom up in Columbia, where he earned First-Team All-SEC honors during the 2019 campaign. At 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, Elliott looks to be a versatile piece that could thrive in Joe Woods’ defense.

The second pick of the third round for Cleveland on Friday night came at No. 97 overall. This pick came to the Browns by way of trade with the Houston Texans for running back Duke Johnson. It was supposed to be a fourth-round selection, but became a third-rounder because Johnson was on the Texans’ active roster for more than 10 games last season.

Cleveland used the pick from Houston on LSU Tigers linebacker Jacob Phillips. Despite only playing three years at LSU, Phillips was an impactful player in the middle of Ed Orgeron’s defense, as he led the Bayou Bengals in tackles during his true junior season in 2019. He joins college teammate Grant Delpit as the latest LSU defender to become a member of the Browns organization.
