Scouting Report. Lucas Niang. 96. player. 872. Pick Analysis. OT. TCU

Niang is a terrific pick for the Chiefs in this spot. After addressing running back and a coverage linebacker per his first two selections, general manager Brett Veach went looking for help along the offensive line. He found it in Niang, who can both play tackle and guard.

Niang started three seasons for the Horned Frogs and didn’t surrender a sack. However, he dropped in the draft due to hip surgery in November, along with concerns about his technique. Still, he was quite effective at the college level, playing most of his snaps against quality competition in the Big 12.

For the Chiefs, he could see time in 2020 as a guard, where the team went through a litany of names last year. Kansas City will have a battle at left guard specifically, with Stefen Wisniewski gone in free agency. Niang will likely try to beat out Andrew Wylie for the job.

In the long-term, Niang is hoping to eventually take over for left tackle Eric Fisher or right tackle Mitchell Schwartz. Schwartz is the best at his position across the NFL, but only has two years remaining on his deal. Fisher is also signed through 2021, although he could be released after the upcoming season for $10 million in savings.
