Washington Redskins 2020 NFL Draft grade: Chase Young changes game
Best Pick: Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State
Sometimes the obvious choice is the best one, and that is absolutely the case with Young.
Between Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Matt Ioannidis and Montez Sweat, the Redskins already have stacks of talent on the defensive front.
Young, though, has the potential to take this group to the next level.
The Redskins will not be expected to compete in Rivera’s first season at the helm but, if they are to contend in the NFC East, they will need to slow down Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles and the potent offense of the Dallas Cowboys.
By drafting a Hall of Fame talent like Young, they have given themselves a pass rush capable of doing that.
Worst Pick: Khaleke Hudson, LB, Michigan
It’s tough to argue with Hudson’s numbers as a tackler, but the question-mark with Hudson is the traits. Undersized linebackers are becoming the norm in the NFL, but they need to have range to excel in coverage and in pursuit and that is where Hudson is lacking.
Despite the addition of veteran Thomas Davis, the Redskins unquestionably had a need at linebacker. Shaun-Dion Hamilton is solid, but they cannot afford to rely on Reuben Foster being healthy after his knee injury last year.
Hudson may make an impact on special teams, but it is debatable whether his addition will do much to boost that linebacking corps.
