Georgia: Pervis Ellison

The stat lines that Pervis Ellison piled up during the regular season over his four years at Louisville and what Dale Ellis did over his four years at Tennessee was not enough to distinguish these two great collegiate players.

Legend and lore are firmly on the side of ‘Never Nervous Pervis’ when as a freshman he averaged over 15 points, almost two blocks, 9.5 rebounds and hit 58 percent of his shots from the field on his way to winning Tournament Most Outstanding Player for himself, and a National Title for Louisville.

Ellison’s stats would improve throughout his four years, peaking in his senior year at almost 18 points, nine rebounds and connecting on 61 percent of his shots as he was named a consensus All-American accompanied by Danny Ferry and Sean Elliot who would stand in his way of winning the Player of the Year.

While playing at the start of the decade, guard Dale Ellis had stats that warrant being compared to his fellow Georgian. For his career over the regular season, Ellis averaged over a point more, almost three fewer rebounds, almost two fewer assists, and shot two percent better from the field than Ellison.

It is tournament time that lifts Ellison clearly above Ellis, as he averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 62 percent from the field over his 12 games, numbers that Ellis falls short of. Sean Elliott may have prevented Ellison from winning Player of the Year, but nobody stands in his way of being the best from Georgia.
