3. Jacob Eason, Indianapolis Colts

After no quarterbacks were drafted in Round 3, the Colts took their potential successor to Philip Rivers in the fourth round. Based on raw ability, size and eye popping arm strength, Eason had edged into the late first-round in some very early mock drafts. But with struggles under pressure and a lack of athleticism, he ultimately settled in exactly where he probably should have been drafted.

Not only will Eason get to work with and learn the nuances of the NFL behind a veteran like Rivers in Indianapolis, he’ll work with head coach Frank Reich and offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni. Reich was a successful quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator before becoming the Colts’ head coach, and he also played quarterback in the league.

Eason will need some time to develop, and the Colts are an ideal situation for that with Rivers playing one or two more seasons. The Colts also didn’t have a quarterback under contract beyond the 2020 season until they drafted one. The pieces are in line for a rise back up the AFC South standings this year, but it looks sustainable long-term and Eason is lined up to benefit.
