4. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

It was a much-derided pick by the Packers, as they not only ignored more pressing needs (wide receiver, linebacker, defensive line), but they traded up four spots in the first round to take a quarterback. Love is also a bit of a project, and it’s worth wondering how his selection with affect the organization’s relationship with Aaron Rodgers.

But since he needs some time to develop and learn, as he comes off a lackluster final season at Utah State and makes the jump from the Mountain West to the NFL, Love needed to land in a spot like Green Bay. A veteran quarterback to sit and learn behind? check. A head coach with an offensive tilt? check. From the team’s end, Love is an easy upgrade over Tim Boyle as Rodgers’ backup based on talent alone.

Packers’ fans will look at the Love pick with a overly critical eye until further notice, and no will blame them. But in terms of where he could have landed, Green Bay is a very good spot for Love as he enters the next level.
