Home: Carolina Panthers

When we mention “the likes of the Giants and Bengals,” you can be certain the Panthers are a part of that lot as well. The most glaring piece of this matchup will be Ron Rivera’s ability to take on his former team, but let’s be clear: there’s not much in the way of bragging rights here. Neither team is expected to be very good for a long time.

The weird part here is how willing the Panthers were to dive into a long-ish term relationship with a quarterback too often attached to his win total. Yes, Teddy Bridgewater is 22-12 as a starting quarterback, but that says as much about his employer(s) as it does his performance. Matt Rhule, then, looks like he’s captaining a ship with mediocrity as the ultimate destination.

That might be enough to actually win this year if Haskins is the S.S. Inconsistent, but Chase Young and company will love taking on a Panthers offensive front without Trai Turner (or even talent). The Redskins have a real chance to sweep all three of the also-rans occupying their schedule—and they should.
