Jacksonville Jaguars. 1. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. AFC. South. player. 52

And here we are. We have arrived at the one team certain to take a quarterback next year in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars may love what they saw out of Gardner Minshew in his rookie season out of Washington State, but they might end up being the worst team in football next season. If that’s the case, then they’ll have their pick of Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.

For a team that has struggled at drafting quarterbacks in the first round, there is no way Lawrence or Fields will bust in the NFL, barring injury of course. Lawrence could be the biggest can’t-miss prospect at the quarterback position to enter the league since John Elway. We’re talking about a guy who will have as much praise coming out of college as Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning.

As for Fields, if the Jaguars were to take him in the top five, it would be like them never passing on Deshaun Watson for Leonard Fournette back in 2017. Fournette has been fine, but Watson now stars for a division rival in the Houston Texans. If Lawrence is already off the board before the Jaguars are ready to pick, then they must draft Fields if he hasn’t been snatched up by somebody.

Minshew is entering the second year of his four-year rookie contract with the Jaguars. It’ll be his job in 2020 unless the Jaguars want to sign Cam Newton for some reason. By the time the Jaguars are on the clock again, we’ll know more about Minshew can and can’t be at the professional level. He’s an excellent player, but you can’t pass up generational talents.
