5 NFL players who will probably still be traded this offseason
2. Leonard Fournette, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are clearly trying to move Fournette, and things apparently heated up again between the launch of free agency and the week of the draft. Asking price might be a factor too, along with Fournette’s profile as an old school-style running back with injury history. The list of viable suitors was thinned in the draft, which was obviously not ideal.
He wasn’t at all dynamic in that area (5.2 yards per target), due in part to mostly playing with a rookie quarterback in a bottom-tier offense. But Fournette had 76 receptions on 100 targets last year, and any idea he has nothing to offer as a pass catcher has to be set aside. In a better offense, he surely would be better all the way around. A natural correction in the touchdown column, after he scored just three times last year, is also coming.
Fournette has a fifth-year option decision looming, as the calendargets set to flip to May. But he is due just $4.16 million in base salary this year, and at 25 years old Fournette has some peak seasons left. As the Jaguars have to temper their expectations on a return, Fournette is more likely to be on the move.
