Wisconsin basketball: 3 starting lineup options for 2020-21 season
Middle-of-the-road scenario
- Point Guard: Trice
- Shooting Guard: Davison
- Forward: Tyler Wahl
- Forward: Ford
- Center: Reuvers
As you can see, there isn’t much change from the best-case scenario to the middle-of-the-road scenario. Again, the heart of this starting five would be on the interior with Reuvers. He’s going to be the leader of this frontcourt in the best and worst of times for the Badgers, depending on how things play out.
The big change, however, comes at the forward spots. There is a viable chance that Gard doesn’t feel comfortable with Micah Potter in an expanded role for the Badgers. With his injury history, they may choose to keep him as a hyped-up sixth man who can come in and deliver but whose minutes can be severely monitored.
Should that be the case for Wisconsin and their feelings on Potter’s role, Ford would move into his more natural spot at the four. That would take away some of the size in the frontcourt but may allow Ford to be a more effective overall player.
Meanwhile, with Ford moving down, that would open up the fifth spot in the starting lineup for Tyler Wahl. The 6-foot-7 forward does not have the talent of someone like Potter, which means it’s a step back. Having said that, Wahl is grit and toughness and has room to improve. He’s the type of player the Badgers have traditionally loved and will likely be enamored with if he does indeed need to start.
