4. Los Angeles Angels

While Mike Trout is still at the peak of his powers, the Angels need to be thinking about competing in a relatively short time frame. The signing of third baseman Anthony Rendon was a good move this offseason, but they still failed to aggressively address the starting rotation.

In 2021, Albert Pujols will still be on the books as the Angels have a top-10 projected payroll (according to Spotrac) with 22 players under contract or control via arbitration or pre-arbitration. But catcher looks to be a void to fill next offseason, with Jason Castro in on a one-year deal this  year and Max Stassi nothing more than a backup if he is back in 2021.

Molina’s brother Bengie spent the early part of his career with the Angels, and their other catcher brother Jose spent six-plus seasons there (both got World Series rings in 2002). So it’s worth wondering if they’ll be on Yadier’s radar as he ends his career, and the Angels actually will have a real need behind the plate barring something unforeseen.
