There have been many variations of Wonder Woman in pop culture, but here’s why Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince is the best of them all.

Some might say the original female superhero is Wonder Woman. While guys have dominated the comic book scene for as long as they’ve been around, there’s something about Wonder Woman’s fierce, powerful nature that makes her stand up above the rest.

And throughout the history of pop culture, Wonder Woman’s had her time to shine and be played by many great actresses. Of course, you can’t discount the spectacular Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series. But as Carter handed down that lasso, we’ve seen someone really step up to be this generation’s Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot.

The actress first stepped into the role in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then later her own spinoff movie and the Justice League. She’s also starring in Wonder Woman 1984, a sequel that just proves the world wants more Diana Prince. As a look back on Gadot’s career as Wonder Woman so far, here are five reasons why she’s the best Wonder Woman.

She shows her determination

Diana is a warrior princess, and she’s never backed away from a fight. From a young age, Gadot’s Wonder Woman knew there was something special about her and always strove to go above and beyond. On her training back on Themyscira, she perfectly helped to inspire all the people out there to stay determined and never give up.

She knows Diana’s fearless

With that, Gadot’s Wonder Woman is fearless in all the right ways. How many times has Diana laughed in the face of danger on the battlefield? While for us non-superheroes, we have to be a little more cautious about the battles we pick, she did teach us all that bravery is a value any hero or normal person can embody.

She proves Wonder Woman can get the job done herself

Let’s be real. Batman, who? Superman? Super gone. While Wonder Woman is definitely a team player when it comes to her colleagues of the Justice variety, she’s still powerful enough to settle almost anything herself. Batman and Superman are usually just there for moral support — because Gadot’s Wonder Woman can handle it all!

She’s got compassion and fierce dedication

While we see superheroes as fearless beings, the best superheroes are three-dimensional characters who have many sides to them. In Wonder Woman, we saw that Gadot’s character had a lot of compassion. She saw Steve Trevor out on the shore and welcomed him into her world where there were no men. And as she lost Trevor, she fought valiantly in his honor. Superhero movies aren’t meant to be love stories, but we certainly were feeling the love.

She’s always leveling up

What’s great about the DCEU’s Wonder Woman is that she’s always leveling up. We’ve seen her grow so much since we first saw her. And from the World War I era to the ’80s, she’s always keeping up with the times. Plus, look at her killer new lightning-swinging skills and winged suit in the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer. Gadot’s Diana is always on the up and up!
