The 2020 NFL Draft has come and gone yet there are still plenty of talented free agents who have yet to hook on with a team.

Once the confetti falls for the winner of the Super Bowl, the NFL offseason officially begins. A month and a half later is the start of free agency where teams get their first crack at trying to add players who can help them fill needs.

Another month after the start of free agency is the NFL Draft, which is – again – a chance to address needs on the roster. If teams can’t fill holes in free agency, maybe they turn to the draft to do so instead.

Even after the draft concludes, however, free agents are still waiting to be signed. There are some big names sitting out there waiting to be signed this offseason too, which could be a number of reasons. Covid-19 has made physicals tougher for teams, but it’s also just been a really weird offseason.

Who are the best free agents still available on the market?

5. Cam Newton, QB

Let’s just get this one out of the way first. Yes, Cam Newton is still out there waiting to be signed by an NFL team. After getting selected first overall in 2011, Newton spent nine years with the Carolina Panthers and led them to a Super Bowl in the 2015 season.

Newton was elusive throughout his nine-year career and was able to use both his arm and his legs against other teams. The reason Newton isn’t in Carolina anymore is because injuries took their toll on him and that’s likely why he’s still sitting on the free agent market.

At this point, Newton isn’t going to be a starter for a team – at least not right off the bat – but if he landed with a team like Jacksonville or New England, he’d have a shot to play. The style in which Newton plays doesn’t exactly pave the way to him having a long career, but he’s about to enter year ten and could still win games for whatever team decides to bring him in.

It’s surprising to see Cam Newton still unsigned, but it’d be even more surprising to see him jobless when the 2020 season kicks off.
