NFL quarterback power rankings: AFC West edition
3. Denver Broncos
Drew Lock 2019 – 1,020 yards, 7 Total TD, 3 Int
When Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season, John Elway struggled to find a viable replacement for the Hall of Famer. In ’16, it was a mix of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. 2017, it was those two plus Brock Osweiler. In ’18, it was all Case Keenum.
Then, last year, Joe Flacco was brought in and he played eight games. Brandon Allen got three starts too. Then, it was Drew Lock’s turn.
Lock played well in his five starts. He completed just over 64 percent of his throws with 1,020 yards and tossed seven scores. The rookie also had three interceptions and fumbles a piece.
More importantly, Lock went 4-1.
Lock could possibly surpass the number two quarterback on this list with a big 2020 season. Lock’s stock is rising, while ranking number two has had to deal with multiple losing seasons.
The 23-year-old will have a lot of options on offense. Courtland Sutton and Phillip Lindsay were already there, and Elway added Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler in the draft. Noah Fant is also at tight end, and Melvin Gordon was signed in free agency.
Elway may have finally found the Manning replacement. Lock has the potential to take off and become one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. For now, he is the third-best quarterback in the AFC West.
