Before Patrick Mahomes was making no-look passes in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs, he was doing absurd things at Texas Tech.

You may have heard this before, but Patrick Mahomes is a pretty talented thrower of the football. Before he was winning the NFL MVP and leading the Chiefs to a comeback win in the Super Bowl and winning Super Bowl MVP honors, Mahomes was breaking the time-space continuum with throws at Texas Tech that defied all logic and physics.

By now, you know about some of the tall tales of his college career at Texas Tech under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. He had an epic duel with Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma when he set a record for most passing yards in a game with 734, an FBS record with 819 yards of total offense and had seven total touchdowns.

But did you know some of the best throws Mahomes made never even happened in the games?

Only those who were on the Texas Tech practice field really know the full extent of the wizardry Mahomes would impart on a pigskin, but some of his magic made it to us mere mortals.

Without live sports on right now, I found myself craving sports highlights in any form. I didn’t care if they were from this year or decades ago, I just really needed to see some excellence in sports.

Of course, I began with Mahomes videos and soaked up all the goodness like a crusty piece of crusty bread does to oil at a nice Italian restaurant. I wasn’t so much fixated on the stuff he’s done in the NFL because that’s been shown a million times over the last two years.

I wanted to see where it all started before he became a household name and a deity in the eyes of Chiefs fans.

That led me to a clip where Mahomes unleashed his inner-Aaron Rodgers in practice. Witness this beauty in all its glory and try not to let your jaw hit the floor.

I mean, is it too soon to put him in the Hall of Fame?

Start fitting him for his gold jacket and find an artist who can mold his bust.

That was just a glimpse into the future of what Mahomes would show in the NFL with the Chiefs. It’s the type of stuff he’s been doing since he was a kid and thriving as a shortstop in baseball and basketball player at Whitehouse High School.

His cross-body throws and no-look passes were routine for the three-sport start. Without making throws from the diamond and on the fast break, Mahomes has channeled all his wizardry into football where he may win the MVP and Super Bowl every year until he decides to retire and give another team a chance for a minute.
