We are now reaching lofty heights on the Ravens’ Mount Rushmore, which features some of the top players in NFL history. One of those honorees is free safety Ed Reed, who was recently named to the NFL’s 100th Anniversary Team for his excellent play.

Despite a promising college career, Reed fell to the 24th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, where the Ravens eagerly scooped him up. Reed made an immediate impact, asserting himself as a ball-hawk in the Ravens’ secondary and won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2004.

Baltimore saw Reed become a nine-time Pro Bowler and eight-time All-Pro as he led the league in interceptions three times. Reed teamed with Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs to give the Ravens three pillars to build a defense that consistently excelled throughout the 2000s.

The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Reed in 2012 in what turned out to be his final game with the franchise. Reed was a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and one of the greatest safeties who ever played the game, making his choice for Baltimore’s Mount Rushmore a shoo-in.
