Atlanta Falcons: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Heading into the offseason the Atlanta Falcons were a trendy pick to be a sleeper in 2020. The Falcons finished the season strong, going 6-2 down the stretch after burying their playoff hopes with a 1-7 start to 2019.

The offseason hasn’t gone exactly as planned for the Falcons, but they did replace the departed Vic Beasley with Dante Fowler to try and bolster their pass rush. Devonta Freeman was also let go after as a cap casualty but Atlanta took a big swing to replace him, signing Todd Gurley in the hopes he can recapture the form that earned him a big contract from the Los Angeles Rams.

The NFC South scene did get a bit more complicated for Atlanta when Tom Brady chose to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winning the division was hard enough with Drew Brees in New Orleans, but adding Brady to the mix in Tampa makes life even harder for Atlanta.

The Saints are a step above the Falcons right now, so Atlanta’s clearest path to the playoffs is through the wild card route. An extra wild card will help the Falcons’ odds, but they will need to top Tampa Bay to grab that postseason spot.

This matchup in Atlanta is vital for the Falcons, who can’t afford to give up a home game to a division foe like the Buccaneers. If Brady can lead Tampa Bay into Atlanta and leave with a victory it will make the postseason path for Atlanta that much harder.
