Minnesota Vikings: vs. Green Bay Packers

Year two of the Kirk Cousins era was a much better one for the Minnesota Vikings, who got to the playoffs after a disappointing finish in year one. The offense became less reliant on Cousins, instead turning to Dalvin Cook and the running game to set the table for the passing attack.

That formula worked well for Minnesota, which upset the Saints in New Orleans before getting run off the field by the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. The 49ers stuffed the running game, forcing Cousins to try and beat them, which did not happen.

Cousins performed well enough to earn a contract extension from the Vikings, but his current deal has been a big factor in the team’s current salary cap woes. Minnesota has had to let a lot of productive players walk out the door to stay under the cap, including defenders like Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Everson Griffen.

Stefon Diggs was also dealt to the Bills for a bunch of draft picks, giving the Vikings some tools to refurbish the roster. Minnesota still has designs on winning the NFC North and the target there remains the Green Bay Packers.

Both meetings last season went to the Packers, who used their new-look defense to harass Cousins. The Vikings need to find a way to topple Green Bay at home to give themselves an opportunity to win the division again.
