The New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings will reportedly bring the gift of fantastic, high-stakes football in the NFC on Christmas Day.
Although the New Orleans Saints are the early favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 55 after signing Emmanuel Sanders to give Drew Brees a great No. 2 wide receiver, their road to the big game won’t be easy.
There are several other great teams in the NFC, including the 2019 champions, the San Francisco 49ers, and the likes of the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.
The Minnesota Vikings are another team that the Saints won’t be sleeping on any time soon, even if Kirk Cousins still has plenty of questions to answer when facing top teams, such as New Orleans.
On Christmas Day, Cousins will get a chance to answer those questions on the road in the Superdome. According to The Athletic’s Jeff Duncan, the NFL schedule announcement on Thursday night will reveal a wonderful Dec. 25 matchup between Minnesota and New Orleans.
While the Saints will be the favorites to pick up the victory, who knows what the landscape of the NFC will look like by then? There’s no doubt this will be a tricky game for New Orleans with both teams at full strength, since the Vikings still have elite players on defense. And even without Stefon Diggs, they will be dangerous with Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook still standing as true superstars in the Minnesota offense for Cousins to lean on.
Never bet against Drew Brees, but this game between the Vikings and Saints could be a tight, entertaining affair that ends up deciding playoff spots beyond the ones directly involving these two playoff-worth NFC teams. Make sure to mark this game on your NFL schedule calendar early, since it should be a holiday treat, especially for neutral fans.
