Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s producer revealed that the ultimate crossover could have happened in the animated film, but it was left out for one reason.
Ever since the day Tom Holland had been hired as the new actor to play the live-action Spider-Man, he created a Marvel trifecta… a holy trinity, if you will, of Spider-Men. And since, fans have been wanting to see him and his two predecessors (Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire) all together in some capacity.
There’s, unfortunately, been no such news on this reunion like no other, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s producer hinted that there could have been the chance for that to happen.
Producer Christopher Miller participated in ComicBook.com’s virtual watch party of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and he revealed that there was only one thing (well, one of many things) stopping them from going ahead with the cameos: Sony felt it was “too soon.”
We pitched the Sony brass an ambitious tag involving Spider-Ham, Tobey, Andrew, and Tom. They felt it was “too soon”#SpiderVerse #QuarantineWatchParty https://t.co/E91H1eLysr

Now, there’s no quantifiable way to measure just how long is “too soon,” and when said measurement exceeds the time of being “too soon” to “just right.” But if we look at the data: the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man was released in 2002, Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man was released in 2012, and Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War — which turned 4 years old as of yesterday.
We’ve gotten to the point where Holland’s Spider-Man is well nestled into the MCU (he’s an Avenger now), Garfield’s Spider-Man is now fondly remembered, and Maguire is regarded as the OG-est of reputable OGs. If there were ever a time for this type of Spider-Man crossover from Sony, now would be the time.
Still, there may be hope that something like this can happen. Not long ago, Tom Holland acted a little too suspicious when asked about a reunion with all three actors. Sitting next to his Spider-Man: Far From Home co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, it’s almost as if the three were sitting on a highly guarded secret, and Holland was doing his best not to say a word. (Read: his “best.”)
So, Sony may have something prepared for the future. And, honestly, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 might just be the movie to do it. Where else can you gather Spider-heroes from all across the multiverse in one place? Plus, we wouldn’t mind seeing animated versions of all these heroes as well.
