The Ravens didn’t spend a second round pick on a running back for him to sit on the bench for his entire rookie campaign. On the contrary, Baltimore wants Dobbins to establish a timeshare in the offensive backfield with Mark Ingrarm this season.

Remember, Ingram will be playing in his age 30 season in 2020. He soaked up over 200 carries for the Baltimore offense in 2019, but there are a lot of miles on his proverbial tires. The Ravens know they can’t afford to overload him with carries in the regular season if they want him to be a factor in the playoffs.

That’s why Dobbins is in line to get plenty of work. He isn’t a big, bruiser, but he’s got a lot of wiggle in his game. He’s just the sort of big play back that can find a lot of open lanes running alongside Jackson.

Dobbins doesn’t need to emerge as a star this season, but he needs to take away a big chunk of Ingram’s workload. The more carries he takes the better off the Ravens are going to be when the postseason arrives.
