These college football teams have high expectations entering the 2020 season but they won’t live up to the hype and won’t be as good as you think.

The college football season and its start are still up in the air, as we await the fallout from the global pandemic that’s caused the entire sports world to go on a break. While we haven’t lost any games in the college football season, and there is optimism, it’s clear that the camps for football teams are going to be in flux.

With so much in question, we have to think there are going to be some teams that come out of nowhere and compete. Maybe some teams we would have never thought of fights for a spot in the College Football Playoff contention. Last season, we saw teams like Utah and Minnesota stay in the conversation until late in the season.

However, just like every year, we are going to see teams surprisingly fall out of the rankings, and disappoint its fanbase. Last season, Alabama started the season as the top-ranked team in the country on some polls, and they didn’t even make the Playoff. Sure, the Tua Tagovailoa injury had a lot to do with it, but these things happen. Texas was no doubt a top ten, and top five in some polls. They were the “most likely” to usurp Oklahoma as Big 12 Champion. They ended up with four losses in the Big 12, ending up tied with Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

While there are disappointing teams every season, this season seems destined to have more than usual. Teams are thrown off, and game plans cannot be implemented by the very best coaches in the league. Relying on Lincoln Riley and Nick Saban alone doesn’t work like it once did.

This season, we’re expecting some teams to really disappoint this season, especially these five teams. We will use the way-too-early FanSided college football rankings to see where they would fall in the preseason Top 25.
