Draftkings First Round Showdown Picks: Scottsdale AZ Open
By Hans Geevers
This Tuesday, Draftkings presents the DFS community with a large number of showdown contests for the first round of the Scottsdale AZ Open! Let’s take a look at the first round of this event from a fantasy perspective!
*This article is focused on the first round showdown contest. If you are not familiar with the rules for the showdown contest offered by Draftkings I highly recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
Here are my Draftkings player selections for the first round of the Scottsdale AZ Open!
Joel Dahmen $11,000
The 32 year old American is the clear class of this week’s field. Dahmen arrives at this event as the 70th ranked golfer in the world according to the current official world golf rankings. The Action Network is currently reporting that Dahmen is a 5-1 favorite to win the Scottsdale AZ Open.
It should be noted that Joel Dahmen arrives at this week’s event in Arizona on the heels of two consecutive top five finishes on the PGA Tour, including a fifth place result at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.
Dahmen won the 2018 Scottsdale AZ Open. The 2018 version of this event was played at the same golf course the field will play this week, the North Course at Talking Stick Golf Club.
Will Dahmen be the chalk this week? Probably. However, fading him will depend on your risk tolerance. Ultimately, that’s your call. I personally will be playing Dahmen in this first round showdown contest.
Brent Grant $8,800
He finished 21st at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Country Club de Bogota Championship in February. Additionally, Grant fired a final round 63 in the final round of the GCU Championship en route to a third place finish two weeks ago.
Yannick Paul $8,100
Paul has played 14 events cumulatively on the Outlaw and Golden State Tours this year. In the 14 rounds he has played on both Tours, Paul has an overall first round scoring average of 68.63. Additionally, Paul finished fourth at the Outlaw Tour’s Arrowhead Classic in April.
Colton Yates $7,900
He finished fifth at the 2019 Scottsdale AZ Open. I like the fact that Yates has performed well on the Talking Stick Golf Club track previously. Yates also fired a first round 63 in last week’s Legacy Classic.
Blake Cannon $7,300
Cannon finished ninth at the 2018 Scottsdale AZ Open. More importantly, he fired an impressive first round 63 in last week’s Legacy Classic en route to an eventual fifth place result.
Daniel Miernicki $7,300
He finished 19th at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic in January. Miernicki also finished 20th at the Golden State Tour’s Legacy Shootout two weeks ago.
As always, good luck!
