4. Tracy McGrady

McGrady was one of the premier scoring threats of the 2000s, blossoming with Orlando before arriving in Houston. With the Rockets, McGrady continued punishing opposing defenses. McGrady was on his way to taking the Rockets to great heights.

Then the injuries struck. From 2006 through 2009, McGrady missed one-third of his team’s games. He missed fewer than 15 games in a season just once in that span and 109-of-328 total games. McGrady hadn’t even turned 30 years old at this point and it appeared his career was headed for a premature end.

Houston flipped McGrady to New York in 2010 in a massive three-team deal involving Sacramento. The Knicks traded Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries and a 2012 first-round pick to Houston for McGrady. Despite all the injuries, the Knicks gave up Hill, who was still a prospect then, and a first for a player turning 30 years old who hadn’t been healthy in five seasons.

After playing just six games with Houston during the 2010 season, McGrady found a larger role in New York. McGrady averaged 26 minutes per game in his 24-game stint in the Big Apple. His efficiency rebounded, though it was still below his standard. Overall, McGrady averaged 9.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game in his brief Knicks career.

In the end, McGrady left the Knicks after the 2010 season and parlayed his performance into two more contracts: one with Detroit and one with Atlanta. McGrady was able to have two more productive and healthy NBA seasons before finishing his career playing in China in 2013.
