5 random players you forgot were on the New York Knicks
By Derek James
1. Larry Hughes
For the better part of the 2000s, Hughes started next to some of the NBA’s biggest stars. Hughes began his career playing next to Allen Iverson and eventually Michael Jordan’s Wizards before joining LeBron James in 2007 and 2008. Arguably, Hughes’ best season came with the Wizards when he averaged 22 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.9 steals per game while earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team.
Cleveland dealt Hughes to Chicago in 2008. This was the official start to the journeyman portion of Hughes’ career. Hughes remained with the Bulls until they traded him to the Knicks the following season for Jerome James, Anthony Roberson, and Tim Thomas.
Playing just 56 games over two seasons for the Knicks, Hughes underwhelmed. Hughes wasn’t the most efficient player, to begin with, so when his shooting slipped to 33.5 percent on 3-pointers and 40 percent on 2-pointers, he hurt the team. In those two seasons, Hughes was a -4.8 per 100 possessions.
Just one day before the one-year anniversary of his trade to New York, the Knicks sent him to Sacramento in a three-team deal that brought Tracy McGrady to New York. The Kings waived Hughes five days later. Charlotte would sign Hughes for the remainder of the 2010 season but Hughes would finish his career with Orlando the following season.
