1. Cam Newton – New England Patriots

When it comes to the top NFL free agents still available, Cam Newton leads the list. Newton is coming off shoulder surgery that ended his 2019 season. Due to his injury history, many believe that the former MVP will be regulated to backup duties this coming season. If healthy, Newton is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

With a position as important as quarterback, most teams have their answer when it comes to 2020. Newton could be inserted on a number of teams and improve their outlook, but there is one that make the most sense. The New England Patriots.

The Patriots are coming off the most dominant era at the quarterback position of all time. What made it so great, besides the level of play, is the stability that former starter, Tom Brady, held. Outside of a torn ACL and a four-game suspension for Deflategate, Brady never missed a game. This is the one detriment that exists between Newton and the Patriots.

With a top of the line defense, Newton at his best could keep the Patriots atop of the AFC East until a long-term answer at quarterback is found.
