1. Daniel Jones, QB

Gettleman selecting Barkley received a lot of attention, mostly questioning why he did not go quarterback. During the 2019 NFL Draft, Gettleman did what most wanted him to do in 2018.

He drafted a quarterback.

Like the Barkley pick, but to a much larger extent, Gettleman selecting Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft was not received well at all.

In what appeared to be a bad reach in a light quarterback draft, Jones silenced a lot of the criticism with his play on the field.

Most fans wanted Dwayne Haskins, and some may have had Drew Lock rated higher on their boards. However, out of the three, Jones played the best and started the most games. Even with Lock being injured, Joe Flacco was going to get some run as the starter in Denver.

Jones took over for perhaps the best quarterback in team history, Eli Manning. Jones entered the team’s Week 1 loss to the Cowboys and threw four passes. Then, in Week 3, he took the starting job.

In his first season, Jones did what any typical rookie does. He flashed the potential and made mistakes. More importantly, he has brought optimism to the same fanbase that booed him on draft night.

Jones needs to be great this season because he must prove he is the future under center for the Giants. Also, if the Giants want to have some success, you cannot win and compete without a quarterback in the NFL these days.

In his rookie year, Jones threw for 3,027 yards and had 26 total touchdowns. He tossed 12 picks and fumbled the ball 18 times. With better ball security this season, he is positioned to build off a solid rookie year.
