Report: Former WWE star Shad Gaspard missing after riptide
Fomer WWE superstar Shad Gaspard went missing on Sunday, after swimming with his son.
On Monday, TMZ broke news that former WWE superstar Shad Gaspard had been reported missing. He was swimming in California with his 10-year old son when they were caught in a rip current. His son was able to be rescued, but Gaspard never returned to the water’s surface. He has not been seen since.
A massive search has been underway, as rescue workers have been trying to find any hope that Gaspard could still be alive somewhere. It’s reported that he told rescuers to take care of his son first. They were able to do so but as they were working with the son, a wave crashed down on top of Gaspard and forced him underwater.
Several swimmers were in the area of the incident and were quickly directed out of the water by lifeguards.
There has been a report from Wrestling Observer Live that search crews have called off the search. At press time, there was no indication that Gaspard had been found. Details are still varying, as multiple media outlets are reporting on the situation.
Pono Barnes, ocean lifeguard specialist with the Los Angeles Fire Department, noted the weather conditions being to blame for what happened.
“That surf that we have paired with a little bit of wind and good tidal swing today, made rip currents a little bit more prevalent and a little bit stronger.”
He also said that the group was swimming close the lifeguard tower, which is why lifeguards were able to race onto the scene as quickly as they did.
Gaspard was part of the highly popular tag team Cryme Tyme, alongside partner JTG. They were a part of WWE from 2006-2010 when the duo split and went their separate ways.
