1. 2007 New England Patriots

You knew this was a lock the second you opened this slideshow. The greatest team to not win a Super Bowl in NFL history is the 2007 New England Patriots and its not even close.

The Patriots had already won three Super Bowls by the time 2007 began but they were clearly on a mission to put together the most dominant team in NFL history. The addition of Randy Moss helped New England put together an offensive juggernaut for Tom Brady, who easily won the NFL’s MVP award with 50 touchdown passes.

23 of those touchdowns went to Moss, who established an NFL record for most touchdown catches in a single season. New England went undefeated during the regular season, the first team to do that since the 1972 Miami Dolphins, and they often ran up the score on opponents to showcase their dominance.

Two playoff wins set the Patriots up to join those Dolphins in the pantheon of NFL history, but no one told the New York Giants. A fearsome pass rush disrupted the Patriots’ offense enough to keep the game close, where Eli Manning led New York to the winning points in the final seconds.

All told, the Patriots went 18-1 in 2007, but their legacy would have been significantly greater if they had finished off the unbeaten season. NFL Network’s Top-100 countdown had this group inside the top-10 in spite of the loss, a sign these Patriots could have been considered the greatest team ever if they had just finished off the Giants in Arizona.
