16. Jamie Dixon, TCU

Salary: $3,423,401 | Buyout: N/A

There were several different stops for Jamie Dixon as an assistant coach before he finally got his first shot at being the head man on the sidelines. He served as an assistant with six different programs from 1989-2003, the last four years of that span with the Pittsburgh Panthers. He stayed with that program when they offered him the head coaching job in 2003.

While in the Steel City, Dixon was immensely successful. A 31-5 season and trip to the Sweet 16 in his first campaign set the tone for a great 13-year stretch with the Panthers. Pitt never won fewer than 20 games while Dixon was at the helm and made the NCAA Tournament in all but two seasons, including three trips to the Sweet 16 and one to the Elite Eight.

Despite his stature and success at Pittsburgh, Dixon accepted the job with the TCU Horned Frogs in 2016 for a nice payday and a chance to coach his alma mater. To this point, however, he’s struggled to find anywhere near the level of success he had with the Panthers.

Through four seasons, Dixon is a meager 84-57 at TCU and only 29-43 in Big 12 play. Furthermore, the Horned Frogs have only made the NCAA Tournament once (2018) and weren’t likely heading back there after going 16-16 this past year. Suffice it to say that TCU hasn’t totally gotten what they’ve paid for thus far in Dixon’s tenure.
