3. Detroit Pistons

Derrick Rose‘s resurgence in the Motor City has been a nice story for Detroit Pistons fans, but building around a 31-year-old guard with a sordid injury history is not an option for Detroit. That’s why the front office need to be on the lookout for a potential superstar like Ball in this year’s draft.

In many ways, the presence of Rose on the roster might take some pressure off Ball to shoulder all of the team’s playmaking responsibility right away. Ball could benefit greatly from learning from a veteran like Rose on just how to become an efficient playmaker in the NBA.

Ball’s size gives him the ability to play with Rose or as the point guard when the veteran isn’t on the floor. That might be the best path towards becoming an efficient player for Ball to take. He’s very used to dominating the ball, but that might lead to some growing pains against NBA defenses.

Like Charlotte, Detroit will also struggle to sign superstars in free agency. Ball may not conjure up any images of the Bad Boys era in Motown, but he might bring the franchise the same number of wins. If the Pistons get a shot at Ball, they shouldn’t overthink it. Taking him could inject much-needed life into a team that desperately needs to raise its ceiling.
