Sam Dyson — Nationals

Despite winning the World Series last year, the Nationals had the worst bullpen in the National League. Their 5.68 ERA was the worst in the NL, and opponents hit .266 off of them, the highest allowed by a bullpen in the NL. Their 1.48 WHIP was also the worst mark in the NL,

And Sam Dyson is still out there. The defending champions have literally nothing to lose by bringing in an actual good reliever to their poor bullpen. If Dyson stinks, you are right back to where you started — and it clearly didn’t hurt you that much.

Dyson struggled once he went to Minnesota last season — in 12 appearances, he owned a 7.15 ERA for the Twins. But Dyson still owns a career 3.40 ERA in eight seasons, and a 3.17 ERA in his six full seasons in the big leagues.

The Nationals brought in Will Harris from the Houston Astros, and they resigned Daniel Hudson, but the bullpen still needs some more help. Losing Anthony Rendon, they’re going to need their bullpen to do the job if they want to get into the postseason again, as the Braves, Mets, and Phillies all will probably finish above .500, too.
