Ben Zobrist — Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers lost Eric Thames and Travis Shaw in free agency this offseason after a second-consecutive postseason appearance. Zobrist could be a perfect replacement.

Zobrist played in a career-low 47 games last year, and will be 39 years old by the time a baseball season would start. But a two-time champion who has played every position on the field except catcher (yes, he has one inning pitched: a scoreless inning of the last day of the season last year), it’s hard to imagine that Zobrist is still on the market.

With Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun each another year older, even though a universal DH is most likely in play for 2020, Zobrist can easily play center field or first base to keep Cain and Braun fresh down the stretch of the season. Plus, Ryon Healy has hit just .236 with a .703 OPS in his last two seasons. He is slated to be the Opening Day third baseman, and while Zobrist has not played third base since 2015, that may be a risk the Brewers could be willing to take if it meant a boost offensively.

Zobrist has an OPS of .781 in his last two seasons. Shaw’s OPS last year was .551. It’s a low-risk, high-reward move for the Brewers.
