Eagles need to sign Devonta Freeman and here’s why
Running back depth
On paper, the Eagles passing attack looks like it could be one of the NFL’s scariest in 2020. Carson Wentz is an MVP candidate at quarterback when he’s healthy and clicking, and Jalen Hurts could be an intriguing backup.
Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert are one of the best tight end duos in the business. Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are experiencing playmaking receivers, Marquise Goodwin is one of the fastest players in NFL history, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Jalen Reagor are the next generation of great wideouts.
But the Eagles still have serious question marks at running back. Miles Sanders can be “The Guy” and is coming off a tremendous rookie season. Like Devonta Freeman, he is a true three-down back who ran for three touchdowns and caught three touchdowns in his rookie season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry and more than 10 yards per reception.
Sanders is capable of leading the way, but the Eagles other running back options are underwhelming. Corey Clement is a nice pass-catching back, but he and Boston Scott simply aren’t good enough to be No. 2 backs.
The Eagles have jaw-dropping depth at wide receiver and tight end, but they need more help at running back. More specifically, they need a true 1-2 punch. Freeman can be a great complement to Sanders.
