3 wide receivers Seahawks can sign instead of Josh Gordon
By Mark Powell
2. Demaryius Thomas
By no means is Demaryius Thomas the player he once was, but for what the Seattle Seahawks are looking for, he might actually be the perfect fit. The Hawks need another physical threat on the outside to take the pressure off of Metcalf and Lockett, specifically moving the latter to the slot to take advantage of nickel packages. Thomas, when healthy, offers the Seahawks just that, with a bit of big-play ability to go with it.
The largest looming question with this Georgia Tech product is how much productivity does he have left entering an age-32 season. Thomas’ last two seasons have been downright disgusting statistically, in part because the franchises which employed him thought far too much of him. At this point in his career, Thomas’ purpose is only to provide support for younger, more agile options on the outside and as a red zone threat. Standing at 6-3 and among the more physical receivers in football, Thomas’ knack for catching touchdown passes won’t waver at his advanced age.
Signing Thomas doesn’t provide the big-play threat the Seahawks would have in Gordon, but it is a substantial fit in an offense that’s already one of the more explosive in football.
