Here are five famous players you forgot were on the Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Stars were once a consistent Stanley Cup contender and Western Conference powerhouse. The one-time Stanley Cup champions also entailed superstars such as Brett Hull, Mike Modano, Sergei Zubov and goaltender Ed Belfour.
Playoff contender or not, the Stars also witnessed star-players don a green sweater towards the end of their careers and well past their primes.
Here are five famous players you forgot were on the Stars.
Dallas Stars: Tim Thomas
Former Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas arguably goes down as one of the most underrated netminders in recent memory. But that’s a conversation for another time.
The two-time Vezina Trophy winner helped the Bruins win their first Stanley Cup since 1971-72 after completing a 3-2 series deficit in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, and earned the Conn Smythe Trophy in the process. His success between the pipes with the Original Six franchise was one of the biggest surprise stories in the NHL for the post-lockout era and recorded in just a handful of seasons.
The B’s later let Thomas walk via unrestricted free agency in 2013-14 when the Florida Panthers pounced on the then 39-year-old masked man. However, Thomas and his unique-styled equipment were traded to the Dallas Stars before the season’s end.
The 1994 ninth-round draft pick only appeared in eight contests for Dallas to close out the campaign, while posting a 2-4-1 record. There’s no doubt fans forget that this former superstar goaltender strapped on the pads for Dallas and ended his NHL career in the Lone Star state.
It was also a comical sight to see Thomas between the pipes in a Victory green sweater and still wearing his Panthers’ themed pads and additional equipment. For the record, the Stars were eliminated in six games to the Anaheim Ducks during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Thomas only appearing in one game.
