Nick Foles

Even if Nick Foles doesn’t win the starting quarterback job for the Bears, he needs to be on point and great in 2020 if the Bears want to be successful. How does a backup quarterback make a difference, you ask? Foles won a Super Bowl, coming off the bench in relief for Carson Wentz.

Foles is not only a solid backup, but he has won 24 of his last 30 games with the Eagles, who run a similar system as the Bears do. If he wins the starting job, I have confidence that he can help his team be more effective offensively.

If Mitchell Trubisky wins the job, I am confident that Foles will be a solid backup quarterback, who helps Trubisky progress as a player. Foles will push Trubisky to be better in every way. The Bears might have a Week 1 starter after training camp, but with an open competition going, the quarterback position isn’t safe.

That is where Foles becomes a threat to Trubisky. He can take Trubisky’s job at any moment if Trubisky starts to struggle, and the offense stalls out. So, if the Bears are going to be a successful football team in 2020, Foles has to be on his game.

The quarterback situation will be exciting to watch during the next few months, once training camp starts. Will it be Trubisky or Foles? No matter who it is, Foles has a huge chance to make the team great. Whether he’s doing it on the field or mentoring Trubisky, Foles needs to be great in 2020.
