4. Allen Lazard

There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers needed to improve their receiving corps during the offseason, but the franchise opted not to do that. The Packers only added Devin Funchess in free agency and chose not to take a wide receiver in the deepest receiver class in years, putting more pressure on their internal candidates to step up.

The receiver that showed the most promise last year was Allen Lazard, who went undrafted out of Iowa State in 2018. Green Bay signed Lazard off the Jaguars’ practice squad in late 2018 and he made the team’s Opening Day roster last season, carving out a role as the year went on.

Lazard did form a bit of a connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, catching 35 passes for 477 yards and three touchdowns. That connection didn’t amount to much in the playoffs, where Lazard made only three catches in two games.

Asking Funchess to be the only upgrade to the receiving corps is a lot so the Packers need a guy like Lazard to assume a bigger role in the offense next season. If Lazard can become a dependable number two opposite Davante Adams, life will be much easier for Rodgers going forward.
