Kansas City Chiefs: 5 teams they’ve struggled against in Andy Reid years
It’s been a tough stretch for the Andy Reid-led Chiefs against the Steelers. Since 2013, Kansas City has managed only two wins against Pittsburgh. One of those wins came in 2015 when Ben Roethlisberger was injured and Landry Jones was the starting quarterback and even then, it was still a close win by the Chiefs.
In 2016, Pittsburgh welcomed in the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football and absolutely walloped the Chiefs. It was a blowout by the end of the first half and there was no Mahomes to save them at that point (he was in what would be his final year at Texas Tech). This, oddly enough, was the last time the Chiefs were on the bad end of a blowout.
If that’s not bad enough, the Chiefs earned the No. 2 seed in the playoffs that season and had to host the dreaded Steelers in the Divisional Round. Pittsburgh managed to win the game despite not scoring a single touchdown.
The next season saw the Chiefs get off to a red hot start at 5-0 and despite their next game being at home, the Steelers still came in and ruined their undefeated season. Fortunately, Kansas City was finally able to beat the Steelers (and Big Ben was actually playing!) in 2018 thanks to six touchdown passes from Mahomes.
Even though the Chiefs had the last laugh here, there’s no doubt that the Steelers have been a team that can get under their skin.
