The 10 most disappointing, underperforming Yankees teams

Yankees disappointment No. 5: 2011
After the Yankees fell to the Rangers in six games in 2010, they knew they had to make the spalshes of CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, and Mark Teixeira from 2009 worth it.
The Yankees had five players end up included in the AL MVP voting from this season: Curtis Granderson (fourth), Robinson Cano (sixth), Sabathia (14th), Teixeira (19th), and David Robertson (22nd).
After returning from a calf strain on July 4, Derek Jeter, who was hitting .260 at the time of his injury, wound up hitting .331 in his final 69 games, and earned his 3,000th hit in the meantime.
Sabathia narrowly missed out on his second Cy Young Award, while newcomers Bartolo Colon (4.00 ERA) and Freddy Garcia (3.62 ERA) were more than serviceable, and Ivan Nova’s 3.70 ERA was the second-best of his entire career.
After a 97-65 regular season, the Yankees faced the Tigers in the ALDS. After winning Game 1 convincingly, they lost the next two games, and actually had another convincing win in Game 4 to stay alive. But losing Game 5 at home was a tough blow.
On paper, the Yankees’ roster was great, but this season ended with the realization that 2009 might have been the only title to come from that busy offseason, which has not sat well with Yankee fans since.
